Keeping the legacy alive, Illustro will bring fourth and illuminate the Spirit of 2012 legacy by platforming the profound creative talents of disabled artists, to tackle the underrepresentation of disability within the dance and arts sector.
Through partnering with dance organisations and programmes, Illustro will take a step-by-step approach to achieve our vision.
ACT 1
Utilising mindful approaches, we will establish authentic connections with disabled artists through movement, enabling the freedom to share their space and stories.
Through authentic connections, we can build relationships with the artists and contribute to their development journey, bringing fourth inspiration or understanding for their visions, passions and driving forces to work towards facilitating professional pieces of work.
Whether a performance sharing event, film showcase or exhibition, the possibilities of creation are boundless. The journey with Illustro will add inspiration, invoke creative thinking and contribute opportunities. We will nurture the action of manifesting and actualising their visions and develop those visions into creative and professional multimedia works.
The future goal for Illustro is to become one of many beacons of light in the journey of disabled artists, connecting with them, and connecting them, towards life-long progression, opportunity and inspiration.
As we embark on our journey as a niche-specific project, we will be sharing updates via our newsletter, so if you’re an organisation, disabled artist or an individual who resonates with our vision, subscribe to our newsletter below and we welcome the opportunity to connect any time.
Across the legacy of Spirit 2012, we have been involved in a variety of projects and performances including the Critical Mass Legacy for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and most recently in collaboration with Midlands-based organisations; Dance Leaders Group, Birmingham Royal Ballet, FABRIC, Mercurial Dance and Orit Azaz in the production and creation of Dance in Education Advocacy Films. These showcase and advocate for the importance of dance in lives of young people and the high importance for dance inclusive curriculums within schools across the region.
We hold advocacy at the core of our intentions, and due to lack of representation and awareness, along with changes around access to dance for all ages, we plan to tackle these issues in every step that we move, word that we voice or action that we take, to invoke positive change around access to dance for disabled individuals.
Our focus is to work with Arts Organisations and Disabled Artists to enable disabled individuals the awareness, development and exposure to dance collaborations, providing professional quality pieces of work and further contributing to their future pathways into the dance sector.
Our collaborations will start regionally, working with artists who encounter barriers to accessing opportunities. Our goal is to form life-long connections with each artist, staying in contact with their journeys and keeping them connected, ensuring that the possibility for future opportunities are always on the horizon.
Keep up to date with our work and progression of our vision.
